Holistic Treatment for Anxiety Issues Being Favored


A record shows that there are many reasons why Americans are stressed at a higher rate in the recent years. Some reasons like economic collapse, increasing unemployment rates, wiped-out savings, home foreclosure, terrorist attacks, illness or loss of a family member can be stated for these stressful situations. These stressful situations can lead to anxiety issues that is known to affect nearly 40 million adults in the United States. Nearly one out of every five people face stressful situations in their lives according to the record submitted by the National Institute of Mental Health. When this is the case of adults, one out of every eight children is also affected by mental health issues.

The Clinical Assistant Professor named Dr. Stephen Josephson at the Cornell University Medical School has stated that we are presently living in a world that feels out of control. During his interview to the Greenville News, he has said that human life is facing increasing challenges and there is also a tendency to underestimate our tendencies to meet the future challenges. All these things result in increasing level of anxiety issues. He has also stated that the good news is that people these days can get better help than ever before.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy:

The help to people facing anxiety issues and related problems these days come in the form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. This therapy teaches the patients on how to change their negative thoughts and how to change their reactions towards anxiety. Even, medicines in the form of beta blockers and anti-depressants are available to help people these days.

Medicines for Anxiety:

The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has reported that the use of anti-depressant medicines have increased by about 400 percent between the period of 1988 and 2008 and these drugs are mostly used by people between the age group of 18 and 44. Even though, these medicines are available to treat anxiety issues, most of the psychiatrists are suggesting natural and holistic ways to cope with this mental condition.

Holistic approach:

In her book talking about a holistic approach to manage anxiety, Dr. Eudene Harry has stated that healthy diet combined with some herbs and vitamins can help people to get rid of anxiety. She has also stated in her book that anxiety is not something that occurs due to the deficiency of Xanax. Even though, Xanax is used for several years now as the medicine for treating anxiety, health care providers these days rethink about this medicine in the light of present day concerns on addiction. So, it is recommended that patients should keep themselves informed about the other options that can help them.

Women at higher risk:

A report shows that women are more prone to anxiety attacks as compared to men and different reasons like childhood trauma and stressful life conditions can be the culprits behind. Dr. Patrick Mullen, a Greenville Psychiatrist has stated that calming effects and holistic approach can help patients to relieve themselves of the anxious things. He also stresses that adequate sleep is important.

Dr. Eudene Harry in her book has stated that when it comes to treating anxiety issues, working on the lifestyle of the patient is important and this is why the holistic approach can help.
